Lets go over a few things to figure out why that refrigerator stop cooling

First thing you should realize is, that almost all home refrigerators work the same way, whether it is a Whirlpool Maytag,Ge,Kitchen Aide so forth, so what I am going to go over will help figure out all brands.

Automatic Defrost Refrigerators, normally runs for 6 to 8 hours and will then shut off for 20-30 minutes to defrost.
So when the refrigerator is running for 6 to 8 hours you should have, 2 fans and a compressor running,
"When I enter your home and you complain to me that the refrigerator is not cooling the first thing I am going to do is open the Freezer door and Listen for a Evaporator Fan Motor, and then I am going to listen for the Condenser Fan Motor located in the rear of the refrigerator, at that point I am going to listen to hear if the compressor is humming/running, Basic Refrigeration says that you should always have 2 fans and a compressor working on a refrigerator for it to work.
Lets say I open the freezer and the fan is not working ( make sure the door light switch is pushed in )
1. Remove all the food from freezer
2. Remove the ice maker
3. Remove the Rear Panel ( most use Phillip screw driver or 1/4 socket / nut driver
4.Then I am going to use a multi meter and test for 120 volts of power to the fan.
If I am getting power to the fan, then I would replace the fan Get Part Price

Lets say that the Freezer fan is working, the next step would be for me to do ,
1. Pull the refrigerator away from the wall.
2. Remove the rear panel.( located at the bottom )

Once I remove the rear panel I am going to test to see if the condenser fan is running,
If the fan is not running;
1.I am going to see if anything is stuck in the fan blade
2. Test with multi meter 120 volts going to the Condenser Fan Motor
If power getting to the Condenser Fan Motor the replace the motor Get Part Price

Lets say that the Condenser Motor is working then, I am going to test the Compressor,
1. I am going to feel if the Compressor is warm/hot
2. I am going to use a multi meter to test for continuity on the compressors 3 pins ( unplug refrigerator first )
3. I am going to test the Relays on the Compressor ( normally shaking the relays will determine if bad )
Always Recommend Having A Pro Repair The Appliance
( Always Unplug Appliance Before Touching Wires )
